Evaluating Progress and Moving Forward

What

To achieve the full IiC award, you need to show that your organisation can provide evidence of the following:

  1. Everyone in the learning community (learners, parents/carers, staff and governors) understand the entitlement to careers education and impartial guidance and the contributions they can make that will enable learners to receive their entitlement.
  2. The information, advice and impartial guidance needs of individual students are monitored, addressed and documented (e.g. individual learning/action plan)
  3. All staff who make a contribution to the learners’ entitlement to careers education and impartial guidance :
    1. have the skills and knowledge to do so, and;
    2. have access to a CPD system that ensures skills and knowledge are reviewed and developed/maintained.
  4. The careers education and guidance programme incorporates the use of labour market information (LMI) and destination/progression information to help learners understand labour market trends and opportunities.

When

This stage is about checking understanding and the impact of processes so is on-going and timing should be aligned with other self assessment and quality assurance processes.

Action plan

Monitoring of learner achievement

  • How does the organisation measure learner achievement arising out of the careers education programme?

Ensure all staff involved in the programme are appropriately trained

  • Discuss with person in charge of CPD
  • Look at and use performance management data on how staff have used the training to improve provision and practice

Make use of labour market information and learner destinations

  • Identify where LMI etc is being used to support young peoples choices and decision-making

Evaluation

  • Identify and evaluate measurable outcomes e.g. learning outcomes,

  1. Build evaluation in to Stage One of the IiC process
  2. Learn from your mistakes – acknowledge that some things will never work
  3. Remember to include young people and their parents/carers whenever possible
  4. Gather views of colleagues and other internal/external partners
  5. Don’t tackle everything at once – choose your best next steps
  6. Communicate processes and outcomes to everyone in readiness for the Panel
  7. Don’t be afraid of evaluation – try to understand what it is trying to do
  8. Use the outcomes of evaluation to in planning improvements and developments programmes
  9. Use the evaluation to strengthen your links with partners on areas concerning transition and progression
  10. Celebrate your successes – share your ideas and listen to others
