Panel presentation

What

Investor in Careers is about gaining ‘public’ recognition for excellence in the management of CEG. After the assessor has given their professional opinion that the organisation has reached the standard the Investor in Careers contact will arrange for a panel to verify the recommendation and discuss any issues requiring clarification with the presentation team from the organisation.

The organisation will make a 15 minute presentation to a panel of invited people from the local community. The presentation can take a form appropriate for the organisation, though the involvement of young people is recommended.

When

The panel presentation will take place after the stage three external assessment at a time and location to be agreed between Investor in Careers and the organisation.

How

The presentation involves the following:

  • You will be asked to complete a form in advance stating the aims and objectives for your presentation. The panel will assess the presentation against these.
  • The presentation follows a formal but supportive procedure. You should allow an hour for going through this process
  • You should ensure the person co-ordinating the events for the day has your portfolio because the panel will spend time considering it
  • Before you start the presentation the chairperson of the panel will introduce the members of the panel and may ask your team to introduce themselves to the panel. The chairperson will outline the proceedings
  • You will be invited to begin your 15 minute presentation. The chairperson will ensure that you do not go over this time. This is particularly important if there is a tight schedule for the day
  • After the presentation the chairperson will take the lead in a discussion about issues requiring clarification and then will invite the other panellists to ask questions. Every member of your presentation team should be prepared to respond to questions
  • The questions may stem from issues raised in your presentation or form the assessor’s report or from the portfolio. They will ask questions to ensure they are happy that the ‘whole organisation’ is committed to the standard, that there is team work, that equal opportunities and diversity issues have been addressed
  • The chairperson will announce when the session has finished and the organisation will be free to depart
  • The panel will deliberate and will decide if the Award is to be made
  • Your organisation will be informed about the panel’s decision, usually by a telephone call. The decision will be put in writing and you will be sent a summary of the panel’s comments. This may include areas suggested for development.
