How do I get the award?
The award has been organised into three specific stages to remain challenging but time manageable.
Stage one – Commitment Certificate
- Produce an action plan for the full award
- Achieve outcome 1 (outcomes 1 & 2 for work-based learning providers) and send supporting evidence to the local contact

Stage two – Intermediate award
- Achieve outcomes 2-5 (2-8 for FE College/3-8 for work-based learning provider) and compile portfolio evidence
- Review and update the action plan for the full award
- Undergo an external assessment by a registered assessor
Intermediate certificate achieved
Stage three – Full award
- Achieve outcomes 6-10 (9-11 for FE College/9-13 for work-based learning provider) and compile portfolio evidence
- Undergo an external assessment by a registered assessor
- Give a presentation to an Investor in Careers panel
Full award achieved (certificate/plaque). Right to use Investor in Career logo gained
Reassessment (after 3 years)
- Achieve the 3 reassessment outcomes and provide supporting evidence
- Undergo an external assessment by a registered assessor
Full award received for another three years (certificate/plaque). Right to use Investor in Career logo retained
Ten items of written evidence provided by all organisations working towards Investor in Careers
- A letter of commitment from the head of the organisation and the chair of governors or the board, supported by a formal committee minute
- A published programme for all learners
- A current careers policy linked to other policies and the organisation improvement/development plan
- Details of a range of work-related learning and enterprise activities linked to the careers programme
- A current Partnership Agreement with the external IAG provider
- Clear entitlement statements for learners with details of where they are published
- Evidence of differentiated support to meet learner needs
- Examples of training and support for delivery staff
- Examples of how destinations data and LMI are integrated into the careers programme
- Examples of a range of monitoring, review, evaluation and improvement
