How do I get the award?

The award has been organised into three specific stages to remain challenging but time manageable.

Stage one – Commitment Certificate

  • Produce an action plan for the full award
  • Achieve outcome 1 (outcomes 1 & 2 for work-based learning providers) and send supporting evidence to the local contact

Commitment certificate achieved

Stage two – Intermediate award

  • Achieve outcomes 2-5 (2-8 for FE College/3-8 for work-based learning provider) and compile portfolio evidence
  • Review and update the action plan for the full award
  • Undergo an external assessment by a registered assessor

Intermediate certificate achieved

Stage three – Full award

  • Achieve outcomes 6-10 (9-11 for FE College/9-13 for work-based learning provider) and compile portfolio evidence
  • Undergo an external assessment by a registered assessor
  • Give a presentation to an Investor in Careers panel

Full award achieved (certificate/plaque). Right to use Investor in Career logo gained

Reassessment (after 3 years)

  • Achieve the 3 reassessment outcomes and provide supporting evidence
  • Undergo an external assessment by a registered assessor

Full award received for another three years (certificate/plaque). Right to use Investor in Career logo retained

Ten items of written evidence provided by all organisations working towards Investor in Careers

  1. A letter of commitment from the head of the organisation and the chair of governors or the board, supported by a formal committee minute
  2. A published programme for all learners
  3. A current careers policy linked to other policies and the organisation improvement/development plan
  4. Details of a range of work-related learning and enterprise activities linked to the careers programme
  5. A current Partnership Agreement with the external IAG provider
  6. Clear entitlement statements for learners with details of where they are published
  7. Evidence of differentiated support to meet learner needs
  8. Examples of training and support for delivery staff
  9. Examples of how destinations data and LMI are integrated into the careers programme
  10. Examples of a range of monitoring, review, evaluation and improvement
